 Customer Newsletter No 5 – December 2007

Welcome to the last newsletter of 2007! It has been a busy and productive year for the shop: our website business is growing and through it we are reaching out to more customers across Scotland; sales of antiquarian law books are increasing, and there is a new section in this newsletter highlighting some of the antiquarian titles we have in stock. You are welcome to come in and inspect any of the antiquarian books before purchase or to contact the shop for more detailed information about each book. We are also interested in buying antiquarian law books.

Avizandum Publishing is also growing with the addition to the list of two new titles this year: Avizandum Legislation on International Private Law in Scotland provides ready access to a wide-ranging selection of materials on those areas of private law in which a foreign element may arise; and Evictions in Scotland is a highly practical guide to the subject, written by Adrian Stalker, who was the solicitor for Shelter Scotland for many years. You will find more details of these titles below.

At Avizandum Law Bookshop we keep a comprehensive stock of new Scots law books as well as a wide range of law books from other jurisdictions.

The shop is situated in Candlemaker Row (off George IV Bridge) and is close to the Courts & Edinburgh University’s Law Faculty.
If the title you are looking for is not in stock we can order it for you. We also offer an efficient book-finding service for rare titles or foreign law books.

We hope this newsletter is helpful and we welcome your suggestions for improvements.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

ISBN: 9780748632909

By comparison with other areas of private law, the law of succession has been neglected by modern scholars. In particular it seeks to extend the techniques of legal comparison into an area of law where hitherto they have been little used.
The jurisdictions most prominently featured are the mixed jurisdictions of Scotland & South Africa, but there are frequent comparative references, & special attention is given to the Netherlands as the country which has most recently re-written its succession law.
The authors of the individual chapters are drawn from Scotland, South Africa, Germany, Italy & the Netherlands. Among the topics covered are freedom of testation, testamentary conditions & public policy, forfeiture clauses & events, revocation of wills by changed circumstances, revocation of mutual wills, fideicommissary substitutions, & succession agreements. The volume opens with an overview of the state of comparative law & with a consideration of compulsory heirship in Roman law.
